Work report for 2010
This year is the 10 th. year of implementation of Spedify (Saint Paul School educational infraestructure for Yunnan Province). Under the long term care and selfless help of the teachers and students of Saint Paul School in Macau, the 4 Daoming schools that have been built in the Miao area of Yunnan Province are still fulfilling their mission. Now we have almost 400 students in those 4 schools and they are being educated exactly in the same way as any other school: the same compulsory education, the same text books, the same teaching stile, the same raising of the national flag ceremony and the same national anthem is sang.
The year 2010 has been a memorable year for Spedify and it will be difficult to forget, because the villages were the Daoming schools are located have suffered the worst draught in more than 100 years. Lack of water really means lack of everything, no food and no life. The villagers have done everything possible to find water, and even carrying water from far away places is not a solution, since the places were water could be found before are now dried up. Their seeds have vithered in the fields, and their livestock have no water to drink, even the people have no water to drink. The severe draught means nothing can survive!
At the Miao villages of Denglongshan and Zhangpojiao, the problem was more and more severe every day. After Spedify was informed about this problem, Mr. An, Saint Paul School Administrator, personally visited those 2 villages on a fact-finding mission and inmediately decided to carry out the building of water cisterns and pumping water works. In November 2010, 21 water cisterns, each able to contain 20 m3 of water were completed at the 2 villages. At the same time, the water pumping works at Zhangpojiao were carried out. December 23 rd, 2010 the whole water pumping works were completed, and the two projects had a cost of CNY 92,476.00,fundamentally solving the drinking water problems of 40 families and more than 300 people and their livestock.
On December 24 rd, after solving the drinking water problem, people welcomed the arrival of Christmas singing and dancing.
