Zhangpojiao is a village of 17 families belonging to the Miao ethnic minority. The whole village has about 120 inhabitants. The first inhabitants of this village Miao came to this place about 30 years ago, and their life has remained virtually unchanged during this time. Work begins at sunrise and it ends at sunset. Year after year, life is always the same.
For so long, they have been living in the inclemency of the surrounding mountains, without roads, light or school. They do not have any medical facility, not even water. Since they have no birth certificate, are people who live in the marginalization and neglect of others. These are called "black people" (this is the term commonly used to refer to people without birth certificate).

The village suffers an absolute lack of water. The surrounding mountains are rocky and treeless. The sun burns the ground as if to remove all moisture. In the back of the town, the mountain has as an opening and there are two pools. The people have dug in this village to collect water. When the rainy season arrives, is collected in these ponds the water that falls in the mountains. All the villagers and animals depend on these two pools in order to have water, but the rainy season lasts until August or September. In recent months, there was only water in the deep zone, the water is green and has a bad smell and worms (see photo).
The townspeople say it's better to have that water that does not have water. Otherwise, you have to walk about 4 hours (4 or 5 kilómetos mountainous terrain) in order to have access to other sources of water.
