Personal thoughts about the activity
This time, the activity of "supporting education" was held in a place with more difficult conditions. A place without water, very poor, without proper ways of communication. If you compare this place with our normal life, you have to admit that the people living in those big mountains are missing so many things, but they are much simpler than us, they are kind and pure. Here, the children can only go to school up to 2 grade of Primary School, and after that they have to the city schools down the mountain. So, the children we are in contact with are those younger children in this age bracket. In the classroom, they are often naughty and make us feel helpless, even makes us feel a little angry, but when some children take the iniciative to help me clean the blackboard after class and put everything in order, my heart will inmediately feel pleased. Being a teacher is like this. Even if only one student is able to understand the teacher's hard work, you will feel some satisfaction.
Although the conditions are very hard, the fact that you have to buy and bring your food before coming here because afterwards there are few opportunities to go down, our food was not good from the start. But the leadership of Yuntianhua Group Co., Ltd. came to our rescue, and brought to us a lot of fresh vegetables. It made me feel so touched. The villagers would also use their own way to show their gratitude towards us. They would give us some mountain peaches to eat. They don't look very good, but they are so sweet.
The activity was not smooth sailing. The second week, the number of students attending suddenly was reduced quite a lot, probably we had no more than 20 students, so we had to join together our two classes into one classroom in the first floor. We don't know the reasons for the reduction of the number of students coming to school, possibly some students had to do some work at home, maybe our communications were not clear enough, or maybe our courses were not so attractive, or that our teachers did not look as active as on the first week. Thinking about the last week, after class, we normally go out and play with the children under the sun. These children don't have playing ground, playing equipment or playing mates, so our coming let them feel the fun of coming to school. But this week, after a student was injured while playing, we no longer encouraged any after-school activity, coupled with our decission to break classes after the morning, it is clear that it has weakened the student's enthusiasm to come to school.
After a few days of the activity, our passion as teachers has been weakened, and the students' passion has been weakened as well. I have always felt that influence each other through their interactions. As the number of students paying attention in the classroom is reduced, the number of times the teacher has to impose discipline increases. The environment in the classroom is not the same as before. This directly affects the enthusiasm of both teachers and student in the school and this will only result in fewer and fewer students, while the teachers will become lazier. But the teacher can not wait for the students to change their attitude. They are the ones who must take the iniciative. So, change is a must.
The life of a teacher is full of troubles and comfort. The students will make the teacher feel headaches, but they will also make the teacher feel moved. We need to keep our passion in teaching when we face our lovely students.
Obviously, this activity's influence in us has not only been to let us experience the difficulties of being a teacher, in fact I think it has help us grow even more than the students, because in such a short period of time, maybe they can not learn a lot of new knowledge, but we could experience a lot of new things in this kind of environment. I believe that our activity can not bring them a lot of change, and it is only their rural teachers the ones who can really change their future.
