Note from the editor:
The article below was written by Daoming School's teachers. They describe their experiences in teaching and dealing with the children in a very realistic way. We will include several of these articles to share them with our friends all over the world.
Our school ... Daoming Primary School is located in a small village in a very remote mountainous area. Here, there is a lively and lovely group of children, who are very grateful, but they have to go through a lot of great difficulties in order to be able to study.
We have heard the people living here say that, about 2 years ago, these children had to walk for 4 or 5 hours in order to go to school. The children were small and the school was so far away, so many parents were worried and unwilling to let their children go to school and preferred their children stayed at home and work at home. At weekends, when the children accompanied their parents and went to the city, they could see the schools, children buying school bags, stationary and reading books, their eyes full of envy. How they wished they could be like city children, able to go to a classroom to learn new things.
Today, thanks to the support of Macau's Saint Paul School and their SP Edify program, these children have their own school. Every day they come to school early in the morning and, after getting into their classroom, study very hard. At 7:30 am., when the teacher comes into the classroom, all the students are already in their seats studying and memorizing the homework. When we see this, our hearts are full of gratitude. Is it not the power of knowledge attracting them, letting them experience the pleasure of reading a book? In the classroom, they eyes of all the students are fixed in the backboard, listening carefully, writing with all detail every new word and raising their hand to answer any problem that the teacher is asking. You can see easily how they love to learn, how motivated they are! I think: just give them a ""small stage"" and they can perform a beautiful dance. After class, the students play merrily in the playground, chasing each other, and the sound of their laughter permeates their village and makes this small village a ""more beautiful place"".
Out of the children that study at this school, some of them live several kilometers away. They must get up very early and, together with another 3 or 4 children, climb mountains, face the cold wind walking in the dark and bumpy mountain path to come to school. When I greet them at the main door of the school and see their faces red because of the cold, I can not help but have an indescribable feeling and respect and love them. Moreover, what moves me the most is that they not only respect each other and are polite to each other, they also have a heart full of gratitude. In my eyes, how lovely and simple they are!
